What It Really Means to Invest in Yourself (And Why It’s Worth It)
When people hear the phrase "invest in yourself," their minds usually go straight to one thing: spending money. And hey, money might be part of it—but it’s not the full story.
Investing in yourself means choosing to grow. It means putting time, energy, and maybe some resources into making your life better—not just in a "treat yourself" kind of way, but in a transform your day-to-day life kind of way.
Here’s the truth:
Most people are more comfortable investing in their job, their kids/family, or their Netflix subscription than they are in their own well-being.
And I get it.
We’ve been conditioned to think that putting ourselves first is selfish. That taking time for rest or learning or support is a luxury. That we should be able to figure it all out on our own.
None of that is true. Let’s clear that up today.
Why It Feels Scary to Invest in Yourself
Before we talk about the how, we need to talk about the fear.
Because even if you want to invest in yourself, the fear is real. You may be thinking:
What if it doesn’t work
What if I waste time or money?
What if people judge me?
What if I try and still feel stuck?
Let me tell you something:
Not doing anything also has a cost.
It costs your time. Your peace. Your energy. Your health.
Doing nothing is not neutral—it’s choosing to stay stuck where you are.
And if where you are isn’t working? That’s a powerful reason to take action now.
The Many Ways You Can Invest in Yourself
Investing in yourself doesn’t always mean hiring a coach (though that’s one of the fastest and most effective ways to make change—more on that in a second). You have options. Different paths for different needs and budgets.
Here are a few:
1. DIY Learning
Read books (such as Balance Breakthrough), listen to podcasts (like mine!), watch TED Talks, or follow trusted accounts online.
Pros: It’s flexible, free or low-cost, and great for self-starters.
Cons: It can feel overwhelming or disjointed without structure.
2. Group Programs, Memberships, or Masterminds
You get access to tools, guidance, and a built-in community of people who get it.
Pros: Some accountability, support, shared experience if you take advantages of the opportunities to interact and get involved.
Cons: May still feel a little broad, general, or impersonal if you have very specific challenges.
3. One-on-One Coaching
This is the most personalized, focused support you can get. You’re not guessing. - you’re individually guided on your specific needs. You get a plan and someone to walk you through it.
Pros: Fastest results. Deep transformation. Real-time accountability.
Cons: Requires a bigger financial commitment—but it’s often the thing that saves the most time, money, and energy in the long run.
In general, regardless of what you pick - remember you don’t have to do everything. You just have to do something.
Something that moves you out of “survival mode” and into momentum.
So... Is It Worth It?
Short answer: yes.
If you want more clarity, more balance, more ease—then yes. Investing in yourself is worth it.
Because the real return on investment isn’t just checking something off a list.
It’s becoming the kind of person who knows what they need, trusts themselves to take action, and stops waiting for “someday” to feel better.
That’s the shift that changes everything.
