Cancel Hustle Culture and Immediately Create More Space in Your Day

One of the top challenges many people face is finding time to fit in all the things they want to do, in addition to all the things they have to do. When you live a busy lifestyle, it can seem almost impossible to find extra time to look after yourself.

So, how can you start to find some work-life harmony? Here are some great tips to get you started!

Schedule It

It may seem pretty basic - but just the act of scheduling self-care into your calendar increases the likelihood that you will actually do it.  Think about it, you schedule in everything else, so why not self-care? When you set a time to focus on yourself, you are much more likely to stick to it. No matter how busy you think you are, there will always be time for self-care somewhere in your schedule - even if it happens in 10-15 minute chunks throughout the day

Establish a Routine

If you are struggling to find the best time of day to practice self-care 2 options to consider are a morning and/or nighttime routine. If you’re able to get up even 15  minutes before your typical day would start - you can start to integrate short but effective yoga, meditation or mindfulness practices to help ground and center yourself before the hecticness of the day takes over. And yes - you really can in just 15 minutes.

Alternatively, you could focus on your self-care in the evenings when say the kids have gone to bed, or right before you do. You can have a nightly ritual that includes your skincare routine, gratitude, journaling, or reading, and again can be done in as little as 15 minutes. It doesn’t take long as you may think to practice self-care so you should always be looking for opportunities to maximize the time you do have to fit it in somewhere.

Look at Automating Daily Tasks

There are all kinds of tools and gadgets that can help make it easier to automate various aspects of your life. If you are constantly busy, you’ll find automating certain tasks can be a game changer.

Some examples could include:

  • Switch from going to the grocery store to ordering groceries online (and you could do either curbside pick-up or delivery).

  • Set up automatic bill pay -  help decrease your mental load of things for you to remember to do.

  • Ritualize certain parts of your day/week - like meal prepping for the week on Sunday - pre-picking your or your kids' outfits, having the same breakfast each morning,

All of these small shifts can free up a lot of free time during the week that can be used to go for a walk in nature, connect with your friends, or do whatever you want!

Start Small

You don’t have to start by completely overhauling your lifestyle. Instead, you can start small, bite-sized moments of self-care.

Begin by taking just 10 minutes out of each day to focus on a self-care activity.  Starting small, it makes it easier to fit self-care into your busy life.

The truth is, however much time you can free up is enough as long as you are intentional and focused on savoring that moment as a part of your self-care. Once you get started, you’ll find it easier to start focusing more on self-care due to the benefits you experience.

Overall, finding a way to integrate practicing self-care with a busy lifestyle doesn’t just happen overnight. However, the tips above can really help make a start. Remember, self-care is essential to your health and well-being. So, no matter how busy you are, you should always try and make time for self-care daily.
