Why Self-Care Matters for Your Life and Business Success

Self-care is often seen as a luxury, but did you know it can lead to a longer, happier life?  As well as a more productive and successful career/business.

Without regular daily self-care, you’re likely to end up feeling stressed, tired, and generally unmotivated - regardless of what you're doing.

So let’s look at how you can be negatively affected without self-care -some signs to watch out for that you need more self-care in your life. As well as the positive benefits of adding regular self-care throughout your day - to overcome burnout and lead to a more successful and productive life - professionally and personally.

Stress and Exhaustion

When you aren’t taking care of yourself, you’ll often feel stressed and exhausted. This in turn can lead to burnout and a feeling of resentment. For example, it could be that you are exhausted from taking care of everyone else’s needs. Over time, if you don’t factor in self-care, you could end up resenting your loved ones.

When you are constantly exhausted and stressed out, it’s impossible to maintain a positive outlook.

Self-care helps you to combat stress by releasing the physical and emotional way we hold onto stress. It also boosts your energy levels, positivity, mood, and creativity.

Mental Wellness

Not following a daily self-care routine can impact your overall mental wellness. Self-care activities make you feel good and good about yourself.  That improves your resilience to handle all of life’s ups and downs. When you neglect your self-care you may feel low or be less able to bounce back from negative events in your life. Failing to take care of yourself leads you to feel even worse. So, maintaining self-care is crucial for your mental fitness and resilience.

Unhealthy Habits

Another thing that tends to happen when you lack self-care, is you’ll can fall into unhealthy habits. It could be overworking at all hours  (even if you love your job this is setting you up for burnout). It could be overindulging in junk food because it's quick and easy (but maybe not so healthy). Or always turning to alcohol or drugs to cope with your stress and daily life.

When you start turning to unhealthy habits for comfort, it’s going to lead to other problems in other areas.  So why not set yourself up for success by building consistent self-care on autopilot throughout your day?

Self-Confidence

Self-care is something you do because you are worth it - just for being YOU! It’s not something you need to “earn” or “deserve.”  It helps you build confidence, optimism, as well as positive self-talk and mindset.

If you fail to take care of yourself, you can end up feeling like you are never good enough. When you are constantly overwhelmed and exhausted from juggling life’s responsibilities, you may feel like you are a failure, or you simply don’t measure up to others.

Conclusion

These are just some of the things that can happen when you don’t include a self-care routine in your daily life. The effects can be severe, causing you to lead an unhappy and unfulfilled life.

Adding self-care to your day doesn’t need to take a lot of time or cost a lot of money.  It’s about finding what works for you and doing it consistently throughout each and every day. It might look different each day and will look different or each person.  So, if you’re looking to lead a happier life, now is the time to start focusing on your needs and making self-care a priority.
